Highly malignant small cell lung cancer (SCLC) tumors are often associated with paracrine and paraneoplastic syndromes. Ten to 15% of patients with SCLC develop hyponatremia (plasma sodium < 125 mmol/L), a problem that has befuddled clinicians since its recognition in 1957.
