NABP Discusses Rogue Internet Drug Outlets During Congressional Briefing – Drug for nerve pain boosts high for opioid abusers. (866) 348-2889

NABP provided insight on the illicit sale of controlled substances online during a Congressional House Briefing hosted by The Partnership for Safe Medicines (PSM). Former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents Javier Peña and Steve Murphy, who were the basis for the Netflix show NARCOS, and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Representative Greg Walden (R-OR), were among the attendees at the briefing held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in Washington, DC.

The following day, on April 11, 2018, Representative Walden held a hearing with Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg. During this hearing, Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Member Representative David McKinley (R-WV) discussed illegal online pharmacies selling opioids on Facebook. Specifically, Representative David McKinley told Zuckerberg, “… your platform is still being used to circumvent the law, and allow people to buy highly addictive drugs without a prescription.”
