In support of President Donald Trump’s commitment to combat the opioid crisis, HHS has awarded an additional $144.1 million in grants to prevent and treat opioid addiction. Administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the funding will be issued through six grant programs listed in the HHS news release.
The funding will be distributed to 58 recipients, including states, cities, health care providers, and community organizations. The funds will be awarded for three to five years (subject to availability and depending on the program). These awards follow a separate award of $485 million in grants in April 2017 to all 50 states, the District of Columbia, four US territories, and the free associated states of Palau and Micronesia.
