FDA Seeks Input on New Approaches to Promote Safe Use of Opioids Under REMS – Drug for nerve pain boosts high for opioid abusers. (866) 348-2889

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will hold a public hearing, “Opioid Policy Steering Committee: Prescribing Intervention—Exploring a Strategy for Implementation,” to receive stakeholder input on how the agency might, under its Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) authority, improve the safe use of opioid analgesics. At this public hearing to be held January 30, 2018, the Steering Committee is considering whether to require sponsors to create a system that would leverage a nationwide database to be more effective in helping health care providers identify potential misuse and abuse (eg, doctor shopping) and facilitate safe use of opioid analgesics (eg, real-time identification of potential harmful drug-drug combinations).
