Amazon.com, Inc, has signed an agreement to acquire PillPack, an online pharmacy. The transaction is expected to close during the second half of 2018 and completion of this transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, indicates Amazon’s press release. PillPack delivers medications in pre-sorted dose packaging, coordinates refills and renewals, and makes sure shipments are sent on time.

PillPack, founded in 2013, by TJ Parker, a pharmacist, and Elliot Cohen, an engineer, offers pre-sorted doses of medications and home delivery for patients with chronic conditions and multiple prescriptions, reports The New York Times in an article. The New York Times also reports that PillPack has licenses to deliver drugs in all 50 states, although it does not currently ship to Hawaii. PillPack’s primary pharmacy is in Manchester, NH, but it also has other pharmacies located in Miami, FL, Brooklyn, NY, and Austin, TX.
